Tour guided by
Dr. Andrew Lentini
A native Torontonian who spent 35 years with Toronto Zoo in the field of wildlife care and welfare, conservation science and biodiversity, Andrew initiated and lead a variety of projects with other Scarborough anchor institutions to facilitate training, education, habitat restoration and other local conservation initiatives.
He has served on national recovery teams for threatened and endangered reptiles in Canada and has contributed to a number of local, national and international conservation projects. His work with Massasauga rattlesnakes, Ontario’s only venomous snake, has included consultation on venomous snake biology and snake bite treatment for Toronto area hospitals at Scarborough Health Network’s Centenary Hospital and Birchmount Hospital, the Ontario Poison Centre at the Hospital for Sick Kids and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
He has also lectured at University of Toronto Scarborough, Centennial College, York University, Sherridan College and Laurentian University developing local capacity to lead conservation initiatives to support Toronto’s biodiversity. He received a public appointment to the Ontario Species at Risk Program Advisory Committee in 2019 contributing to the protection and recovery of Ontario’s species at risk.
In 2020, Andrew was inducted into the Scarborough Walk of Fame in the Environment category for leading conservation programs and for the critical protection of species at the Toronto Zoo and in Scarborough.
In retirement, Andrew is focusing on his family, enjoying hiking and wildlife photography, and continues to volunteer in the community.
