The East and West Learning Club June 2019 Schedule

We will have a short month in June as our TDSB permit to use the school facilities for 2018-19 school year will end on June 13.  We will come back in mid September.  So take the advantage, come to join us in this cultural corner of Scarborough to improve your publicv speech and social skills, learn cultural knowledge, and have dialogues with local people!

June 6  Regular Club Meeting

June 13  Special Event — The East&West Dialogue with TV Industry Veterans

Time:  (The first half hour is meal and social time.)

The East&West Dialogue:  6:00 – 8:30 PM

Regular Club Meeting:  6:30 – 8:30 PM

Venue: Iroquois Junior Public School

265 Chartland Blvd., Scarborough (near Finch & Brimley; free parking lot at the west side of the school building)

Cost: All events are free, including simple meals (please bring your own water bottle to save the environment!).

Language used: English

EVENT DETAILS

@Regular Club Meetings:

1.Each participant will have a 1`2-minute presentation, sharing anything happened in his/her life, or a thought/idea etc. Then take 3 questions from other members.

  1. We will watch a video clip on etiquette and communication skills, and share our own experience.
  2. We will pick a topic to discuss, encouraging all participants to voice their opinions in a clear, polite, and constructive way. Please feel free to send your suggestion on topics.Once you RSVP’ed, we will send you the topic of the week.  Here are a few examples that we discussed in the past:

* Are seeds alive?

* What do you think of the heated competition between YouTuber Pewdiepie and T-Series, currently the most subscribed YouTube channels?  Would you make effort to help one of them win over the other?  Why or why not?

* How do you thik of the trade war between China and the US, and the debate between Fox Business host Trish Regan and CGTN host Liu Xin on May 29?

@The East&West Dialogue

This is our monthly special event!  Come to have a dialogue with guest speakers from different cultural backgrounds and with lots of experience and expertise.  We hope through this communication we can develop a deeper understanding of Canadian society, how other people are thinking and living, and how we can adapt ourselves to our new country better.
