February 2018 East & West Dialogue Announcement and Minutes

The East & West Dialogue February 2018

Guest speakers:
Mr. Quincy James, Principal of Henry Kelsey Senior Public School &
Ms. Marcia Pate, principal of Iroquois Junior public School

Mr. James was born and grew up in Toronto, with a Trinidadian heritage.  His undergraduate major was Art.  Ms. Pate came to Toronto from Jamaica as a fourth grader.  Her undergraduate major was Physical Education.  Different in personalities, preferences and growing background, each of them has a unique perspective and experience with cultural differences, stereotyping issues, and ways to deal with them.  As established members of this society, they do share things in common: self-confidence, aspiration, and a comprehensive understanding and pursuit of multiculturalism.  What personal stories would they bring to us?  What are the approaches that take them through their life’s successes and challenges?  As veteran educators in our neighbourhood, how would they evaluate their  students’ behaviours at school?  Do they have any tips or suggestions to help our kids perform better socially?

Welcome to join our monthly special event, the East&West Dialogue, listen and talk to our guest speakers, and get answers to those questions and more, should you have any.  Maybe, with our guests’ perspectives, we’ll get to take a deeper look at the society, its rules, and ourselves as well!
