On the Speaker:
Anthea Cheung, PhD holder in Far East Studies (EPEH-Sorbonne), is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Chinese Language & Literature of Hong Kong Shue Yan University. Her research interests include Pre-Qin schools, unearthed materials during the Pre-Qin and early Han periods, Wei-Jin society and metaphysics, and Pure Land Buddhism.
About the Book:
Shishuo Xinyu世說新語 (A New Account of the Tales of the World) was compiled by Liu Yiqing (403–444) and his retainers during the Song period (420-479) of the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420–589). It tells about the stories of many outstanding literati (mingshi) between the late Eastern Han (25-220) and Eastern Jin (317-420) periods.
