The East & West Dialogue with Artists and AGO Tour Guides

Doris Purchase is a conceptual artist focusing on the painting.  She is driven by all things creative and her personal goal is to connect people with art and engage them in the creative process.  She has lived in Toronto since attending OCA in 1987.  Doris was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1968 but has moved around and lived with family or on her own as far away as Germany and Italy and as near as Oakville, Ontario.  She now creates, exhibits and sells her art and works in education part time at the Art Gallery of Ontario (the AGO).  Most important to  her is to create a balance between life as mother, wife, employee and artist.

Lei Xu is a Settlement Counsellor at University Settlement, a 106 year old non profit organization funded by Federal government.  She supports new immigrants to settle in Canada, helping them engage in Canadian culture and overcome obstacles to integrate into the local society.  After work, Lei loves reading, writing , gardening, pets, traveling, and appreciating arts.  She often visits AGO by herself or with clients as a tour guide.  She has been happily living in Toronto with her family and consider it as her second home town.

On Thursday October 25, 2018, Doris and Lei will come to our book club, and have dialogues with us while sharing their stories from life and at work.  It will be a perfect opportunity if you have any questions on art, the appreciation of art, or related etiquette and customs.  Just join us, and enjoy the creativity of two artistic guests and their experience with cultural differences in the art field!
