Come and join law expert and business executive Paul Petrelli, and explore answers to questions like:

In this interactive seminar, we will discuss what privacy means to us and how our privacy is protected (or not) in Canada. We will also explore whether Canadians have a “right” to privacy, and how our personal information is used and abused in the online attention/surveillance economy. Last but not least, we will consider the implications of new technologies, such as AI, and a changing geopolitical environment for Canadian’s privacy.

Guest Speaker Profile

Paolo (Paul) Petrelli is the Principal of Opalo Advisory Services (www.opalo.ca), which provides pro bono educational mentoring and management advice to selected non-profit organizations and international consumer protection agencies. He is a retired business executive with over 30 years of experience in the financial services sector.

Most recently, Paul was the CEO of Assuris, the not-for-profit Canadian life and health insurance policyholder compensation corporation established in 1990 and the expert authority responsible for resolving a failed Canadian life and health insurer. He has also held a wide variety of senior leadership roles at a global Canadian-based life insurer, including responsibility for global Compliance, Corporate Development, Corporate Governance, and Canadian Finance. Paul obtained his B.A. (Honours) from the University of Toronto in 1991, his LL.B. from the University of Windsor School of Law and was admitted to Law Society of Upper Canada as a member in 1997. He also obtained a Master of Law degree from the University of Toronto School of Law in 2019, specializing in Innovation, Technology and Law.
